Assistant

Lauren is a graduate of the University
of Cincinnati and a graduate of Seven Hills High Schoolwho came to our hospital to shadow one of our doctors. At the time she was unsure if her career path would lead to human medicine or veterinary medicine.  Now Lauren definitely plans to obtain her D.V.M. degree.  She donates her time to rescue organizations by fostering dogs in her home. Until she is off to college again, Lauren is trained for many roles at our hospital as both an assistant and receptionist
Amy Deye

Receptionist


Amy and her family are long time clients of MFPH.  She is a Mason High School graduate and attended Miami University.  She, her husband and her young daughter live on a small farm with numerous pets including a horse, 3 dogs, multiple cats, rats, and chickens.  She volunteers for HART rescue as a foster mom for dogs, cats and kittens.

Jessie  graduated from The University of Cincinnati with her associates degree in veterinary technology in 2016.  She did a preceptorship with our hospital and we were so impressed with her work ethic and truly caring nature that we added her to our team upon graduation. Jessie grew up in Lebanon but is currently awaiting completion of her new house. She and her fiance have 3 dogs, including a very sweet but completely blind beagle. 
Tara Wheeldon
Office Manager

Tara came to us with experience managing nurses and home health care workers, most recently at Children's Hospital.  She gave up her high stress desk job to pursue her love of pets and put her talents to work for us at MFPH.  She lives in Loveland with her husband, youngest son, and 3 dogs including a French bulldog and a doberman pinscher.  She also has 2 adult sons and one grandchild.  As our hospital has grown, it's been a pleasure to have Tara available to take on many administrative, personnel, and inventory management tasks.  She's the smiling face that keeps our office running smoothly!

Assistant

Shelley 
joined our staff in 2015. She is a huge animal-lover with three dogs, two rabbits, a cat and two horses! Shelley lives in Sharonville with her husband, who is a farrier, along with their three children. Animals have been a big part of her life, and she studied animal science at Miami University.​ 
​​​Dottie Dayton
Head Receptionist

Dottie is a familiar face and voice at Mason Family Pet Hospital having joined us as a full-time receptionist in 2005. After many years in the child care field, she decided to put her love of animals to work. Dottie’s family includes her husband, two grown children, one granddaughter, multiple dogs, cats, and rabbits. In her spare time, she enjoys bowling, yard work, and spending time with her granddaughter. Her dream is to move to the country where she can own more land and, of course, acquire more pets!

Ashley Kawalek
Receptionist

Ashley  moved to West Chester in 2017 to be closer to family but is originally from Albany, Georgia as you may notice by her accent and polite demeanor.  She is a truly genuine lover of all pets and people and has a dog, cat and hamster in her family.  She is working towards also being trained as an assistant in the near future. 


​​​Dr. Erin Alessi, D.V.M.
Veterinarian

Dr. Erin (Dean) Alessi is a 2009 graduate of The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine, where she also received her undergraduate degree in zoology. Dr. Alessi came to us after spending three years at a 7-doctor mixed animal practice in rural Pennsylvania, where her patients were 75% farm animals and 25% pets.

A greater Cincinnati native, Dr. Alessi went to Sycamore Schools before moving to West Chester where she graduated from Lakota West High School. Dr. Alessi’s father, Dr. Howard Dean, has a dental practice in Fairfield, Ohio. Dr. Alessi, her husband, and their two young children are happy to be back to our area, closer to family.

In her free time, Dr. Alessi enjoys rooting for the Buckeyes in football and spending time outdoors with her family, including Ella, their Chihuahua mix, and Shelby, an active labrador.

​​​Dr. Drew Mason, D.V.M.
Veterinarian

Dr. Mason is a 2014 graduate of Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine. He is originally from Colorado Springs, Colorado, where he attended Colorado State University for his undergraduate degree. Growing up, Dr. Mason would often visit Cincinnati during the summer to spend time with family. Upon graduation, he decided he wanted to practice small animal medicine in the Cincinnati area, and we are thrilled to have him at Mason Family Pet Hospital. Dr. Mason has a dog, a sheltie mix named Keystone, whom he adopted from a rescue while attending school at Kansas State. During his free time he loves going to Reds games, local festivals, trying new restaurants (Eli’s BBQ is among his favorites), skiing and watching college sports. Dr. Mason’s favorite interests in veterinary medicine include soft tissue surgery, preventative medicine and dermatology.
​​​​Dr. Ruthann F. Carr, D.V.M.
Veterinarian


Dr. Ruthann Fox Carr is a native of Mason, Ohio. After 13 years’ experience at a busy Cincinnati practice, she returned to her hometown to open Mason Family Pet Hospital in 2003. She received her D.V.M. degree in 1989 from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine, and holds a bachelor's degree from Miami University.

Dr. Carr grew up on Fox Run Farm in Mason, where her family had cattle, ponies, dogs, and cats. Her father, Thomas E. Fox, M.D., was a popular family physician who served the community for over 35 years. These two influences stimulated her desire to become a veterinarian from a very early age.

Her favorite areas of veterinary medicine include soft tissue surgery, ophthalmology, complicated internal medicine cases, and behavioral problem solving.

In her free time, Dr. Carr is a member of the Kiwanis Club of Mason.  She serves on the school board at Mt. Notre Dame High School and on the board of the Mason Scholarship Foundation. She enjoys traveling, hiking, cooking, and spending time with her husband, two college-aged children, two dogs, and two cats.

​​​​Stephanie Dawes
Assistant

Stephanie graduated from Mason High School and the University of Cincinnati. Since 2009 when she first worked for us a student, she has explored other opportunities including training as an STNA (nursing assistant),  working for the Medvet oncology department, and in a veterinary pathology laboratory.  Through all of this he has maintained her position as veterinary assistant by helping us on Saturdays and is now back full time. Stephanie has a menagerie of pets at home, including dogs, a cat, Degus, a snake, tree frogs,and a Gecko. She volunteers with the Arrowhead Reptile Rescue and is a great source of information about reptiles as pets.  

Dr. Kathleen Mohlman, D.V.M. 

Veterinarian


Dr. Mohlman is a 2003 graduate of The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine who came to us with over 13 years of experience with both small and large animals at hospitals in Cleveland, Pittsburgh, and Cincinnati..
Dr. Mohlman grew up in Beavercreek, a suburb of Dayton, where she was involved in 4H, visited her grandparents' farm often, and worked for a local veterinarian  starting in the first grade!  In her spare time, she enjoys running half marathons, hiking, camping, and travelling.  She shares her home with Jackson, the standard poodle, and Declan, the rambunctious Irish water spaniel.   She and Declan compete in obedience and agility training. 


​​​​Maria Sanjuan
Assistant

Maria is currently a pre-veterinary student at the University of Cincinnati.  She is a tremndously hard worker, putting in nearly full time hours at our hospital while attending classes and maintaining excellent grades.  Maria helps us everywhere in the hospital as a receptionist, veterinary assistant, and grooming assistant.  She is a lover of all pets including our rabbit patients and she has an amazingly calm, courteous and gentle demeanor.
​​​Rusty the Cat
Greeter

Rusty is one of our most friendly team members. He was one of our cats who was supposed to be adopted through the Warren County Humane Association. After letting him roam our hospital, we realized how at ease and happy he was here, so we offered him a job. Rusty likes to greet our clients in the waiting room and has absolutely no fear of other pets. He’s usually up to mischief, but we love him just the same!
Amber Fairchild
Receptionist

Amber joined our staff recently in 2018 and despite no prior experience sh has been amazing at learning her receptionist duties and our new software.  She is a truly genuine animal and people lover  and may return to school at some point to study social work.  

Emily McClanahan, RVT
Veterinary Technician

Emily is a recent 2018 graduate of Brown Mackie College and comes to us all the way from West Union, Ohio.  She was an extern at our hospital and was such a great fit for our staff that she's worked for us ever since. She has exceptional skills for a new grad and a bubbly, caring personality. She is a lover of all animals and gives special attention to our rabbit and feline patients.

​​​Rosa Solinsksy
Assistant

Rosa joined our staff in 2005 after
working as assistant manager at the Pets-N-Such in Mason.  She is our most experienced and skilled veterinary assistant and should be a familiar smiling face to all of our clients.   She is currently enrolled in veterinary technician school.  Rosa and her husband have a lively, active household with two sons, a rambunctious labrador, and several cats.  She is a genuine animal lover and sometimes pet sits in her home. 
​​​Chris Diacont
Receptionist

Chris has been a client of ours since 2006, but joined our team as receptionist in 2012. She is a tremendous dog-lover and people person. She and her husband live in Liberty Township and have raised three children and two dogs, both mixed breeds. Chris formerly provided home care for an elderly woman, but prefers the fast-paced environment and constant interaction with our clients at our busy front desk!

Veterinary Technician


Ellen came to us with many years
of experience as a veterinary technician, and was previously the senior technician at Beechmont Pet Hospital, Dr. Carr’s former practice. We are thrilled that she moved to West Chester in 2006. After taking a short break to stay home with her two young sons and subsequently a daughter, she has continued to work part-time for us at Mason Family Pet Hospital. We welcome her talent as a technician along with her great sense of humor.
Calyn Smith

Veterinary Technician

Calyn is a 2017 graduate of Brown Mackie College with her associate degree in veterinary technology and currently resides in Middletown.  She is a U.S. Army veteran which may account for her calmness under pressure.  She loves to give special attention to our hospitalized pets and takes pride in her work.  


Peyton Nixon

Veterinary Technician

Peyton earned her associates degree in veterinary technology from Brown Mackie College in 2017 and has been working for us since then.  She is a graduate of Lakota West and is mom to a young daughter.  Her sense of humor and big heart towards all pets and their owners makes her a great addition to our staff.
